Safety & COPPA

Youth-safe by design, not by setting.

These protections are on for every family, team and coach. There's nothing to switch on.

What's built in

  • No player messaging

Players have no inbox and can't message anyone. Coaches communicate with parents, on the platform.

  • Parents approve

Players 13 and up can request a session or a pickup spot. Nothing is booked until a parent says yes — unless a parent chooses to let their teen join pickup games on their own.

  • Birth date before any player login

A player needs a full date of birth before they get their own login. If one is ever missing, we treat that player as under 13.

  • Under-13 contact info stays private

Contact details for players under 13 are never shared with other families.

  • First names only

Other families on a team see first names — not full names or contact cards.

  • Protected locations

Pickup addresses and rosters stay hidden until a player joins.

  • Block and report

A parent's block covers every child in the family and quietly cancels future bookings. Reports go to our review queue.

  • No email to players

Players only get in-app team updates and game recaps. Parents choose how they hear from us.

  • Honest about coaches

Coaches write their own profiles and families leave reviews. We don't independently verify credentials — ask coaches directly.

Children under 13 (COPPA)

Parents stay in charge

  • Parental Consent. We get verifiable parental consent before collecting a child's information. Only a parent or guardian can add a child under 13.
  • Limited Data Collection. Name, birth date and sports — only what coaching and teams need.
  • No Marketing to Children. No marketing or advertising aimed at children.
  • No Third-Party Sharing. We don't share children's data with third parties for marketing.
  • Data Access. Parents can view, correct or delete their child's data anytime.
  • Data Security. Industry-standard encryption and security protect children's data.

Full safety & child protection policy

Effective date: [set by Sean] · Updated to reflect team features

1. Our commitment to safety

AJN sports is committed to creating a safe environment for youth sports — teams, private coaching and pickup games. We implement comprehensive safety measures and comply with all applicable child protection laws, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

2. Coach accountability and community reviews

Coaches on AJN sports are accountable to the families they work with:

  • Coaches provide their own bio and years of experience on their public profile
  • Parents and players can leave public ratings and reviews after sessions
  • Families can raise conduct concerns with our team at any time through our Contact page or at safety@ajnsports.com
  • AJN sports does not independently verify coach identity, certifications, background, or insurance — parents should ask coaches about credentials directly

We reserve the right to refuse or terminate any coach who violates our conduct standards or receives substantiated safety complaints.

3. Parental controls & supervision

For children under 13, parents retain full control of their account:

  • Only parents/guardians can create accounts for children
  • Parents must approve all bookings before confirmation
  • Parents have full visibility into all communications
  • Parents can see session history and each session's notes
  • Parents choose which coaches to book, and can raise concerns about a coach with our team at any time
  • Parents can delete their child's account and data anytime
  • Players 13 and up can have their own login, which a parent sets up. They can request a session, a pickup spot or a team activity, and a parent approves it
  • A parent can choose to let a teen join pickup games without asking first, and can turn that off again at any time
  • A player needs a full date of birth before they get their own login. A player with no birth date on file is treated as under 13

4. Communication safety

Messaging on AJN sports is designed to keep communication transparent:

  • Players can't send or receive messages. Coaches and team staff communicate with parents
  • Messages stay on the platform, and parents can review the conversations they are part of
  • Players never get email from AJN sports. They only see in-app team updates and game recaps, and parents choose how they hear from us
  • We prohibit coaches from requesting personal contact information outside the platform
  • We prohibit coaches from soliciting in-person meetings outside booked sessions
  • Inappropriate communications will result in account termination
  • Parents can raise concerns about any communication with our team at safety@ajnsports.com

5. Session & game locations

Coaches must specify session locations when creating availability. All parents have access to:

  • Exact session location (venue name and address)
  • Session date and time
  • Coach name and profile information
  • Clear cancellation and modification policies
  • For pickup games, the exact address and the full roster stay private until a player joins. Before that, only an approximate area shows

We discourage one-on-one sessions in private locations for young children and recommend group settings or public facilities.

6. COPPA compliance & team privacy

AJN sports fully complies with COPPA requirements for children under 13:

  • Parental Consent: We obtain verifiable parental consent before collecting any information from children
  • Limited Data Collection: We collect only essential information needed for coaching (name, birthdate, sport interests)
  • No Marketing to Children: We do not target marketing or advertising to children
  • No Third-Party Sharing: We do not share children's data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • Data Access: Parents can view, correct, or request deletion of their child's information anytime
  • Data Security: We implement industry-standard encryption and security measures to protect children's data
  • First names only: On a team, other families see first names only — not full names or contact cards
  • Under-13 contact details: Contact details for players under 13 (or with no birth date on file) are never shared with other families, even if a sharing setting was turned on

7. Block, report & incident response

If you have concerns about coach conduct, child safety, or inappropriate behavior:

  • Reach out to us as soon as possible through our Contact page
  • Contact our safety team at safety@ajnsports.com
  • For emergencies, contact local law enforcement
  • We review concerns raised with us and handle them confidentially
  • We will take action, up to and including coach removal, if violations are confirmed
  • Parents can block a coach. The block covers every child in the family: the coach is hidden from search, messaging stops in both directions, and the family’s future bookings with that coach are cancelled. The coach is not told
  • Coaches, messages and other content can be reported from the app. Reports go to our review queue, and we can remove reported content

8. Coach conduct standards

All coaches on AJN sports must adhere to a strict code of conduct:

  • Maintain professional, appropriate behavior at all times
  • Never request personal contact information (phone, address, social media)
  • Never meet with young children outside of scheduled, supervised sessions
  • Never engage in inappropriate conversations or relationships
  • Respect parental authority and communication preferences
  • Maintain professional boundaries with all users
  • Comply with all applicable laws and regulations

9. Physical safety guidelines

Coaches are expected to:

  • Conduct coaching in safe, appropriate venues
  • Carry liability insurance where required
  • Follow all local sports facility rules and regulations
  • Maintain proper equipment and venue safety standards
  • Communicate any safety concerns or injuries to parents immediately

Parents are encouraged to attend sessions, especially for children under 13.

10. Parental guidance

We recommend parents:

  • Review coach profiles and ratings carefully before booking
  • Attend at least the first coaching session
  • Maintain open communication with their child about coaching experiences
  • Report any concerns or uncomfortable interactions immediately
  • Monitor all messaging through the platform
  • Ask coaches about their background, experience, and any certifications they claim

11. Ongoing safety review

AJN sports reviews platform safety on an ongoing basis:

  • We review concerns and complaints that families raise with us
  • We investigate violations of this policy promptly
  • We remove coaches who violate safety standards
  • We update our safety measures based on industry best practices, and as the product grows
